Functional Autonomy
Functional autonomy is the practical ability to think independently, evaluate information, trust your own observations, make decisions consistent with your values, exercise meaningful choice, and direct your own life.
It is not the absence of influence or interdependence. Rather, it is the capacity to make informed, voluntary decisions while remaining connected to your own judgment, values, and goals.
Healthy relationships and environments generally strengthen functional autonomy. Agency-eroding environments gradually interfere with it.
