Punishing Choice


Punishing Choice is a recurring pattern in which independent decisions are followed by emotional, relational, financial, social, or practical consequences that make future independence increasingly costly.

Although choices remain formally available, their perceived cost steadily increases, leading many people to limit themselves before anyone explicitly tells them they cannot choose.
